The technical colleges were organized in the context of the country's emphasis on vocational education, especially in the light of the growing shortage of highly skilled personnel. At present, there is no shortage of academic research and design personnel in China, what is really lacking is the application-oriented talents with high skill level. In 2012, approved by the People's Government of Shandong Province, Weihai College of Engineering and Technology was upgraded to Weihai College of Technology, which became the first college of technicians in Weihai. It is a training base for highly skilled talents with the main goal of training technicians, and also undertakes teacher training and further training for various vocational education and training institutions.
